I realized within the first page that I had accidentally planned the backgrounds to include some of the worst, most difficult things that any artist can draw. Water and fog. Water is just hard to draw because it's water, but fog? That is so difficult to make have the weight and feel of fog. I remember driving to work in the mornings across the river and wishing I had brought along a camera for some reference shots. Unfortunately, I decided to wing it. I get better as the pages go along. It's amazing what you can learn by just hands on drawing. You might also be wondering why the boat guy is wearing such horrible colors. I decided that I didn't like him very much and picked the first couple of colors that I could think of that might look mildly decent together. However, I love the hat. It's a horrible hat, but how can you not love it? ;)
